You May Have Seen Bobby Or Jack But Now You Can See Tiger - Golf Events

There are four major competitions in the golfing world that grab the imagination, attracting the best players in the world. All these golf events have a long history and many stories to tell. Champions have been made at The Masters, The US Open, The British Open and the PGA Championship. Winning all four in one season is known as a Grand Slam but only one player has ever achieved that feat and that was when Bobby Jones did it in 1930.

Legendary player Jack Nicklaus has the best record in these golf events, but Tiger Woods isn’t far behind. The US Open, which takes place every June, was first organized in 1895. The most wins at this tournament list, includes Nicklaus, Bobby Jones and Ben Hogan. Different courses host the competition across America from California to New York to Texas. America leads the winning table, having won it on 78 occasions. Both professional and amateur players are eligible to enter and there is no lower age limit.

The Professional Golfers Association hosts the PGA each August at one of a select group of courses. It began in 1916 and Jack Nicklaus, Tiger Woods and Walter Hagen in the 1920s are multiple winners. America has also won this contest 78 times. The location for 2008 has been announced and is Bloomfield Hills, Michigan.

The Masters is played at the same club in April every year. The Augusta National Golf Club in Georgia has been the venue in this most prestigious of golf events since the very first one in 1934. It was co-founded by Bobby Jones, who also helped to design the course. The winner is rewarded with a cash prize and the coveted Green Jacket. Gary Player was the first non-American golfer to win when he triumphed in 1961. Other players to do well here are Nicklaus, Arnold Palmer, Tiger Woods and Nick Faldo.

The remaining major takes place in July and is the only one to be organized outside of the United States. The Open Championship, also known as the British Open, began in 1860 and became one of the official golf events on the PGA Tour in 1995. Players from all over the world have affection for this event as it is played on nine historic courses on a rotating system. The championship is shared between English and Scottish clubs, including St.Andrews, Royal Troon and Muirfield in Scotland and Royal Lytham and St.Anne’s Golf Club in England. British players have won the most times and multiple winners include Tom Watson, Tiger Woods and Jack Nicklaus.

Choosing the Right Golf Driver

Whether you are a carpenter looking to install your next carpet, a musician looking to play the perfect masterpiece, or a golfer looking to come as close as ever to playing the perfect round one thing never changes … you need the right equipment. There is no right equipment for every person; everybody seems to have a different idea of what helps them stay in a rhythm and just what it is that is the right grip for any one individual. With golf there is a variety of equipment to get used to and use on a regular basis so here is a recap of what you need, this is what to look for in a the right driver for your golf game.

  • Decide if you want a standard, full size, or over size club head to decide what type of ball you are going to hit off of the tee. The more advanced golfer may want an oversized head due to lesser control and a bigger sweet spot while beginners will want a standard head for the exact opposite reason.
  • Decide if you want a stainless steel or titanium material to be used in your driver as a stainless steel driver will certainly be less expensive while also having less of a sweet spot. Titanium will be strong and more forgiving, but will cost you a little bit more so be sure that you will get your money’s worth before making the purchase.
  • Decide between a steel shaft and a graphite shaft depending on if you want more control and durability or to save a few bucks in the overall scheme of the game. Graphite is strange in that it will both be more expensive and less durable so unless a steel shaft is against your religion it sounds like a good decision to purchase one.

There are an exceptional amount of total items to consider if you are looking to purchase a driver to help you with your golf game overall. Consider talking to the pro at your local golf course or the membership you own before spending a bundle on something you won’t use or shouldn’t use.

Choosing the Right Golf Balls

Whether you are a handyman looking for the perfect hammer, a singer looking to sing the perfect song, or a golfer looking to come as close as ever to playing the perfect round one thing never changes … you need the right equipment.

There is no right equipment for every person; everybody seems to have a different idea of what helps them stay in a rhythm and just what it is that is the right grip for any one individual.  With golf there is a bevy of equipment to get used to and use on a regular basis so here is a recap of what you need, this is what to look for in a the right balls for your golf game.

Golf has obviously undergone as much change as any sport due to advancements in technology and equipment with no one area seeing as much improvements as that of the golf ball itself.  The ball has been almost completely revolutionized in both its durability overall and the ability to be hit further than ever.  With all of the advancements it is hard to understand just what has changed so it is best to explain it all as it simply boils down to two things, spin and distance.

The newer balls can gain more distance than ever with a much tighter cover that allows the ball to fly longer in the air in addition to bouncing further than ever.  However, the down side to this is that it may actually be more difficult to handle the ball on the green as it rolls faster than ever.  When it comes to spin the ability to let the ball spin back to the hole is important and those that use spin will want a three-piece ball in opposition to the distance ball that is actually a two-piece ball.

When you go to purchase a new ball try to talk to the golf pro at your club or at the retail store and explain the strong and weak points of your game.  Depending on what you tell them they can recommend the right type of ball to make a difference in the overall score for you as a golfer.

Choosing the Right Golf Irons

Whether you are a driver looking for your your next car, a musician looking to play the perfect song, or a golfer looking to come as close as ever to playing the perfect round one thing never changes… you need the right equipment.  There is no right equipment for every person; everybody seems to have a different idea of what helps them stay in a rhythm and just what it is that is the right grip for any one individual.

With golf there is a bevy of equipment to get used to and use on a regular basis so here is a recap of what you need, this is what to look for in a the right irons for your golf game.

A blade back iron will be much thinner and easier to swing while providing a very soft feeling when hitting it in the right place on a particular swing.  The cavity back iron will give you a much bigger sweet spot while also taking part of the ease of swing away since the club is a considerable amount heavier.  Make sure that the lie is right in your club to get the right lift on your ball for your body; this is a factor that is based on each individual golfer so make sure that you have the right lie for you, not for anybody else.

A good iron can get you out of many a particularly difficult position so it is important that you spend the right amount of time and energy to purchase the right one.  While some may need more loft or lie than others it all depends on your game and how you play the game in general.  Don’t spend money without first understanding your game and what it will take you to be successful at your game.  Make sure that you understand what each aspect does and understand what the irons have that you are interested in purchasing before you make the actual purchase.
